About me
Hi! I’m Schyler Mason (She/Her), and I’ve been caring for children and families professionally since 1993. As a nanny I’ve worked with 13 children long term, ranging in age from infancy to 12 years old. As a Certified Postpartum Doula for over 21 years, I’ve been providing care to families from all walks of life - giving support where it’s been needed. I have worked with preemies at 4.2lbs, twins, singletons; and in one case all of our time together was spent teaching a very precocious 2 year old how to be an elder sibling.
My passion for newborn care, elder sibling care and family support fuels my days; and the variety that each family provides keeps things new and fresh. Each family I’ve been lucky to work with has taught me so much. I've been introduced to cultures and practices from around the world, tasted the favorite foods of each family, and have seen the different parenting styles that makes each family's culture unique and special. It has been amazing to see, and a blessing for me to understand the world just a little better. I love my work!
I provide care for families of all walks of life, and recognize all as deserving of equal access to support.
My educational background includes decades of childcare and parenting education. I attended Seattle Midwifery School for my doula training which was associated with Doulas of North America (DONA). I did breastfeeding training through Big Belly Services. I maintain my infant, child and adult CPR and First Aid certifications. I am a Certified Gottman Educator through the Gottman Institute, helping families with “Bringing Baby Home”. I am a Certified Postpartum doula through NAPS of Seattle. I continually take part in ongoing education and endeavor to keep up on the current research as it pertains to my work.
On a personal note I have lived here in Seattle my whole life (I live on the hill I was born on!) and love my city. I am a definite “foodie” and have a passion for baking, cooking, and feeding people. I have catered events, specializing in special requests, specific dietary needs and personal preferences. I am always learning more about something or other, from knitting and making baskets to gardening and the study and eternal search for wild mushrooms. I have family here in the greater Seattle area and on Whidbey Island. We’re animal people, and have dogs, cats, house rabbits and horses.
"As a first-time parent, I found Schyler's extensive experience/knowledge and overall energy and care to be invaluable. I felt comfortable handing over my child to Schyler while I got some things done around the house. I also appreciated Schyler regularly texting us to check in between visits. After our contract was executed, Schyler continued to make herself available to answer my one-off questions. That speaks to her level of care!" -June Liu, parent of Shay
